Book Review: Broken Knight by L.J. Shen

Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.

Luna Rexroth is everyone’s favorite wallflower.

Sweet.
Caring.
Charitable.
Quiet.
Fake.
Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wants—namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.
Who taught her how to laugh.
To live.
To love.
Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.
Gorgeous.
Athletic.
Rugged.
Popular.
Liar.

This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.

But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore.
When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.

Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.
I really want to tell you how much I loved this story. Unfortunately, I would have preferred that Dean and Rosie had first finished their story.  Maybe a novella bringing us up-to-date would have been a nice segue.  The author did provide some closure but it felt too entangled with Knights story.

Broken Knight centers around Knight Cole (Dean and Rosie's son) and Luna Rexroth (Edie and Trent's daughter). Two wounded souls who continue to deal with abandonment issues in their own way.  Luna is a year older than Knight and after a push in the right/wrong direction, she decides to go away to college. Luna no longer has Knight to defend her so she begin to move past her insecurities and break free of her binds. Knight struggles with how much Luna has changed. He struggles with his mother's illness. He struggles his birth mom who has appeared. There is a lot of drama and pain. I cried so hard I had to take a breather because the story tore me apart.

The happy ending felt unfinished. There is nothing wrong with that since there are other stories to be written that will catch us up with the crew. Although, I enjoyed Knight and Luna's story I still felt robbed, needing more of Rosie and Dean. 4 Stars
