Book Review: Bane by L.J. Shen

Bane
Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief and a fraud.
Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.
Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.
Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.
Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter
Hot as hell, cold as ice.
I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.
She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.
She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.
More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.
Little does she know, I have the teeth for it.

Bane is the fourth book in the Sinners of Saint series.  This series cannot get any better! The author brings it, the heartbreak, the pain and the insurmountable betrayal. Every chapter, every page, every word takes on a life of its own. Two very broken souls brought together though manipulation. The characters are strong as much as they are weak. They survive for the sake of surviving instead of living. Together they change, they find their way. The twists only add to the unstoppable force that is Jesse Carter.

Jesse Carter may have survived a deplorable incident but she stopped living. She hid from the world, hid from life. Unable to move on, unable to feel, unable to fight. Until Bane.

"Perfectly gorgeous. Perfectly damaged. Perfectly ruined. Did I mention perfectly forbidden?"

Bane signed a contract to befriend Jesse. Hire her. Humor her. Court her. Breathe life into her.  Six-month contract. Six million dollars. To coax her out of her shell.  But he can't touch her.  That was the plan until it wasn't. Until she got under his skin. Until Jesse came back to life and was ready to feel again.

This story is filled with fight. I love Jesse, she takes the wheel and pushes herself. She stands up for herself. She wields the sword to save herself.  5 Stars
