Book Review: Nate by Celia Aaron

Nate
I rescued Sabrina from a mafia bloodbath when she was thirteen. Doing right by her became a priority for me, even while I was busy as the new head of the Philly syndicate. I sent her to the best boarding schools and kept her as far away from the life as possible. It worked perfectly. Until she turned 18. Until she came home. Until I realized that the timid girl was gone and in her place lived a smart mouth, a wicked imagination, and a body that demanded my attention. Who am I? I’m F*cked. Nice to meet you.

Nate Franco is a crime boss who is cleaning up his organizations act. The story is dark with plenty of danger lurking around every corner but the anti-hero is not overpoweringly broody.  There's plenty of fun, taunting banter between the characters. They are very much like family with the exemption of Nate and Sabrina. No, those two are more like horny high school kids.

Nate Franco is a crime boss who is cleaning up his organizations act. He's also Sabrina's savior. He had saved her when she was thirteen. She had been kidnapped and her adopted parents had been killed. Nate sent Sabrina away to boarding school to keep her safe. Now she's back and interested in only one man, Nate. Nate on the other hand wants more for Sabrina, a bright future away from the mob.

Nate isn't the only one who has noticed Sabrina has returned. Dmitri, the head of the Bratva is seeking revenge and has plans to punish Sabrina for the sins of her father. The Russians are a thorn in Nate's side, it only worsened with Dmitri's obsession with Sabrina. Nate is also struggling with a rat in his mix, who was feeding information to the Russians.

I really like this spin on a dark anti-hero. Nate isn't broody and dark but rather humorous and dangerous. He will protect what is his but also enjoys a good banter between friends. 5 'truffle shuffle' Stars
