Review: Dangerous Desire by Sebastian Ex

Dangerous Desire

My name is Brandon Edwards. Men like me don’t come along often. I'm a gentleman, a lover, a protector, and a Dominant. I've never been the type who can – or even wants to – commit to a woman…until I met Penny a couple of years ago. Since then, we've been in a committed relationship. I adore and cherish her.

Penny has a darkness inside her, a yearning for extreme pain. But I don’t want that for her, nor can I give her what she’s so desperate for. Her craving has led her down risky paths, and it’s my job to keep her off those now.

There’s a dangerous desire lurking within all of us. But when does wanting more become too much?

This is the second in The Onyx Club series and delves into the SM of BDSM. Penny is a full on masochist, she needs intense pain to reach her ultimate high. Brandon is Penny's Dom, however she needs a Master. Brandon doesn't believe he can give Penny what she needs and let's her walk away.

Brandon is full on Dom. He cares for woman who he deems worthy, the character is slightly over the top but fits in well with the story. Penny chases her need for pain and it leads her to the wrong person. I didn't feel connected with Penny, she had to overcome fears in order to heal but without her POV I found it difficult to understand her pain. Not just her physical pain but also her emotional pain.

Brandon wants it all, he wants to avenge the wrong doing that caused Penny's injuries, he wants to save a woman and son from their current living situation, and he wants save Penny from looking for the wrong person to give her what she needs. (Hence my comment of Brandon being slightly over the top.) The story moves way from common sensual BDSM stories that are out there and more towards SM, which peaked my interest. This goes beyond 'pain is pleasure' but it's more of a need for pain. To understand that need, I needed more of Penny's POV.

If you're looking for dominate men and kink, you'll find it here. I enjoyed the story but it might have been slightly too heavy on the male POV for me. I missed the connection with the heroine. If you enjoyed the 'Filthy Desire', you will enjoyed this story.
