Book Review: Preppy, Part One by T.M. Frazier

Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part One (King, #5)
Bowtie...'till I DIE.

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.
For Preppy and Dre, it was only the beginning…

Preppy is back! Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part One takes place during King’s incarceration. We’ve only learned bits and pieces in the previous books about Preppy but now we discover the man behind the bow tie. It’s a whirl wind of heartbreak and salvation. I could not put this book down. The story pulled me in from the beginning and left me wanting more in the end.“I’m Samuel Clearwater, my friend’s call my Preppy.”

While King is incarcerated, Preppy and Bear work on devising a plan to get custody of Max. When their plans don’t pan out Preppy finds another way.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is at the end of her rope. She’s planning on taking her final plunge from the infamous water tower until Preppy grabs her very the last second saving her life, or not.

“I never knew true fear until I met pure evil. He wore a smile and a bow tie.”

Dre and Preppy form an unconventional relationship. Preppy blackmails Dre into forging documents that he will use to try and win custody of Max. Dre had turned to drug to escape her past but its Preppy who helps her find another method of escape. Dre discovers what’s behind the glint in Preppy’s eye, the devil in a bow tie.

Preppy is keeping secrets from Dre in order to keep her. When the secrets begin to unravel so does their relationship.

My heart ached for Preppy. His past, his present are filled with suffering. Dre is his in-between. He

saved her, although he may have had an ulterior motive in the end he found love. The ending made my heart beat faster. I can’t wait for the next chapter in Preppy’s tale. Loved this! 5 Stars.
