Ellie Godfrey has kissed her share of frogs. So many, in fact, that she fears she won’t recognize her prince if and when he finally comes along. Tired of waiting for THE ONE, Ellie decides to have a baby on her own before it’s too late.
When Jasper Autry hears about Ellie’s plan, what else can he do but step in and offer to “contribute” to her project. Does that make him an opportunist? Whatever. He wants the perpetually out-of-reach Ellie Godfrey, and when he sees his chance, he takes it. That she’s the sister of his business partner and close friend Flynn gives him pause, but it doesn’t stop him from having what he wants.
As Jasper and Ellie embark upon their secret “project,” he makes it clear that for as long as they’re together, he’s in charge—in the bedroom anyway. After the hottest sex of her life, Ellie realizes she’s made a deal with the devil himself.
Ravenous is the fifth installment in the Quantum series and the first book I've read in this series. I wish I had started from the beginning of the series because there are several intriguing, intertwining back stories. This is a friends to baby-making lovers story.
Ellie will soon be thirty-six and wants to have a baby. She feels as if her eggs are on a timer. During a Mexican trip she decides to confide in a close friend with her baby making plans via insemination. Her friend happens to Jasper, "tall, blond, muscular in a lanky sort of way, handsome as sin, talented as all get-out and manwhore to the highest order." He's also her brother's best friend and business partner.
After Jasper hears of her plans he jumps at the opportunity to father her baby. He requests that its done the good old fashion way and he agrees to sign over full custody rights to Ellie.
"It happens the old-fashioned way. No laboratories, turkey basters or test tubes, just hot, sweaty, no-holds-barred capital infusion."
Once together their feelings evolve quickly but Jasper has secrets that are keeping him from committing to Ellie. He temporarily escaped his father's clutches but now lives in fear of his future burdensome obligations. It has become his ticking time bomb.
Will their love be enough for Jasper to confront his greatest fear and find a way to be together? Jasper and Ellie are strong characters, neither hesitates in going after what they want. Ellie is strong, determined, accepting and independent. She can take care of herself but at the same time she is able to submit and discovers her own sexuality. I enjoyed the story but I missing the family/friends dynamic from not starting at the beginning of the series. 4 Stars!
