Review: The Scene by Roxy Sloane

The Scene

Miami. The city of sex, sin — and secrets.

I came here with one mission: solve the mystery behind my brother’s death.
Somebody’s got answers.
Somewhere, I’ll find what I’m looking for.

I didn’t bet on Xavier. He’s my way into the scene — and my biggest threat.
I should keep my distance, but I can’t stay away.

I'm playing with
fire, and I just pray I don't get burned.

Roxy Sloane is my favorite novella/mini-series author. I was really excited about 'The Scene' and it didn't disappoint.

Setting:
Miami, Florida a.k.a. the land of the beautiful, tanned, well dressed and rich.

The Players:
Nicole 'Nikki' has come to Miami to solve her brother's murder.
Eli is Nikki's deceased brother.
Hailey is Nikki's friend, roommate and she helps her get a job at a luxury resort.
Chad is Nikki's manager, "tanned guy with impossibly white teeth".
Xavier is a hotel guest, "He's seriously yummy. The kind of guy that word hot doesn't even do justice for."
Ava is Eli's ex-girlfriend.
Eduardo was Eli's boss.
Kayla is Hailey's friend.

Suspense:
Nikki has arrived at South Beach to find out who murdered her brother, Eli.  Will her nosing around attract the wrong attention?

Intrigue:
Xavier comes from a underprivileged past. He earned his wealth from distribution and sales and diversifying his investments.  Is he too good to be true?

Cliffhanger:
Expected. No spoilers here!

The series has started off with danger written all over it! Readers beware, you will want more after reading 'The Scene'.
