*****5 Stars***** Review: Free Me (The Found Duet #1) by Laurelin Paige

Free Me (The Found Duet, #1)

Her story started long before she started working at The Sky Launch...

Screw fairytales. The only reward Gwen Anders got from her rough childhood was a thick skin and hard heart. She’s content with her daily grind managing a top NYC nightclub—Eighty-Eighth Floor. So hers isn’t a happily ever after. She doesn’t believe in those anyway.

Then she meets J.C.

The rich, smooth talking playboy is the sexiest thing that Gwen has ever encountered, but she’s not interested in a night-in-shining latex. But when a family tragedy pushes her to the brink, it’s J.C. who’s there to teach her a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires. His no-strings-attached lessons require her to abandon her constant need for control. Her carefully built walls are obliterated.

Gwen discovers there’s a beautiful world outside her prison. Freedom is exhilarating—and terrifying. When she starts to feel something for J.C., she fears for her heart. Especially as she realizes that he has secrets of his own. Secrets that don't want to set him free.

WOW! This story is filled with pain, angst, turmoil, denial, hidden truths, betrayal and love. Gwen Anders has been protecting her heart, keeping it safe from heart break, only sharing her love with her sister and brother until she meets J.C. He appears at the perfect time to help her with her pain. He offers to help her loosen up a little.

"I'm attracted to you. I'd be interested in spending time with you. In a bed. I think it could be mutually beneficial and if that comes off as crude, I apologize. But I learned a long time ago that the only way to get what you want is to ask. And sometimes even the things that seem impossible turn out to not to be so impossible after all."

The catch is that they don't share their personal information with each other, only first names. "There will be no relationship stuff. No boyfriend/girlfriend. No getting attached. Are you with me?" "Yes. I'm completely with you. I have no interest in attachments of any sort." Gwen was still dealing with her past and completely agreed to a 'detached' relationship.

As they spend time together their relationship develops. They slowly begin to share information, feelings begin to develop and for a minute J.C. begins to withdraw. They are both hiding their pasts, their secrets and slowly they are revealed. Their feeling are shared. In the end Gwen is given a choice and it's a difficult one to make. She chooses to follow her instincts and makes the difficult decision. A decision that ends in a cliffhanger!

I enjoyed how the relationship develops, how J.C. and Gwen opened their hearts. J.C. and Gwen haven't given up on love, timing is however everything. I couldn't put the story down, I needed to know what was going to happen next. It was a real page turner.  I can't wait for 'Find Me', book two in 'The Found Duet' series.
