****Review**** Step-Lover by Bella Jewel

Step-Lover

You’ll only ever have one forbidden love.

Care to know why?

Because when you find it, forbidden love that is, you’ll forget everything else. You’ll forget your first kiss. You’ll forget the first boy who made you smile. You’ll forget all the bad, and remember all the good. You’ll forget that it’s wrong. You’ll forget that it hurts. You’ll forget everything that came before him.

Forbidden love, it has a way of changing you. The secrets. The lies. The guilt. You want something so much you no longer care about the world around you. The passion takes away the pain. I’ve felt it. I’ve lived it. I didn’t need it, but it chose me.

I met him before I knew. I loved him before I knew.

I didn’t know that he was my stepbrother. I knew I had stepbrothers, but I didn’t know he was one of them. Now I know, I have to walk away. My mom, she deserves this happiness so much more than I do. If she ever knew…it would destroy her.

You have to understand why.

I saw my father die right in front of my tiny, eight year old eyes. He took my sister with him. All that’s left is my mother and I. She’s found her happy place, the only place she’s had since our worlds were destroyed.

So you see, I can’t have him.

I can’t want him.

But there’s this problem with passion, and love, and destiny.

It doesn’t give you a damned choice

This is Aria and Blade's story and yes Blade is Aria's step-brother, well not at first. Aria is living with her mother and step-father, Jack, who she adores. Aria tragically lost her father and sister. After eleven years she still mourns their lose and continues to have nightmares. Jack has three sons, Blade (Bladen), Brody (Broderick) and Lee (Ripley), that Aria hadn't met because they were living in California, that was until they decided to live with their father. As it turned out Aria had met Blade right after she graduated high school, she had planned on losing her virginity before attending college and Blade was at the right place at the right time. What she didn't know at the time was his name, not until they met again at her step-father's lake house.

The story is full of secrets and heartbreak. After Aria's past is revealed to her step-brother they each share their secret with Aria and they begin to bond as a family.  Although Aria and Blade feel a strong emotional and physical attraction to each other, they decide it's best not to start a relationship. They don't want to upset their parents and are willing to give up on their own happiness to do so. Aria has her heartbroken several times by Blade. Is it possible for them to be together and keep their family? Aria's mother says it best;
"Life is a whole lot of what ifs honey, but I've learned that things can happen when you least expect them and those things can turn your life around in one day, one hour or one damned second. What ifs mean nothing to me. Something could happen tomorrow, or it could last the rest of your life. Live for the moment and live for your heart, not everyone else's." But is it enough?

I enjoyed Aria and Blade's story. I did have have concerns that their parents allowed underage drinking and even after a mishap. Aria and Blade have a conundrum to solve, can step-siblings date? They learned a lot about relationships along the way and developed strong bonds. I really enjoy Bella Jewel's books. Her books are real page turners and I have a hard time putting them down.
