Dimitri wants only one thing: revenge. His stepfather, Hendrix, has caused him nothing but pain and heartache. At last Dimitri can take something—someone—important to Hendrix and make him pay: Jess.

Jess is feisty and strong headed. Her past haunts her and connects her to the dangerously dark Dimitri in an unexpected way. Dimitri keeps his secrets locked deep inside, and Jess is drawn to this broken man like no one before.

With little to cling to besides their haunting pasts, both could have been doomed to lives spent raging against the darkness that holds them prisoner. Instead, it seems that as their pain draws them closer together, it is their desire that will set them free.

Review

Dimitri has abducted Jess from his stepfather, Hendrix, as a pawn in seeking revenge.  Dimitri blames Hendrix for his past.

"I have accepted what I am.  I have accepted that my path has been chosen.  I have accepted that I will do whatever it takes to make him pay.  I am where darkness lies."

Although Jess is Dimitri's captive and part of his revenge tactics, he begins to fall for her. Jess understands Dimitri.  She understands his internal fight for closure. They have both been damaged. What Dimitri believes is the truth about his past is very different from what Jess has heard.  Jess was saved by Hendrix, while Hendrix walked away from Dimitri because he didn't know how to handle the situation.

"You've been through a lot, possibly even worse than what I lived through, so understand something about me that no one has ever understood.  You understand fear, pain, hesitation and loss.  You understand how hard it is to give someone your trust, and you understand that you cherish the few you do trust because they'll likely be all you'll ever have." -Dimitri
Unfortunately the person who had damaged Jess was not dead. He's alive and also looking for revenge.
I loved this book!!!  It's a modern day pirate tale of revenge, damaged souls, and forgiveness.  5 ++ Stars!
